Matthew H asked:
I have a Mac and a copy of Windows XP Pro, (pre-SP2).
To use Bootcamp, I need either Windows XP, with SP2, or Vista.
Since I have my own, legitimate license key and certificate of authenticity, I don’t really want to pay for a new license key, but can’t find anywhere to just get the CD?
I don’t mind downloading and burning it, which should still be totally legal as the license is authentic.

Any ideas?

It should be availible, but it isn’t.
I’d let you use mine with your own key, but it’d be illegal for me to transfer it to you digitally. (even though it’d be legal for you to install).
sorry and good luck.
CHARLIE and Don: YOU are WRONG, they are NOT for ONLY the computer you bought it for. I deal with this all the time building new computers to replace old ones… I’ve talked to Microsoft on the phone enough to know.
Stop giving bad answers please.
MUFFER: you are directing this person to download a cracked version of XP that is not only Illegal but also NOT SECURE. Bad Answer!

Technically, you do NOT have a legitimate license for Windows to install on your Mac. Windows licenses are non-transferable, meaning they are only good on one PC, and not to be re-installed anywhere else.
You need to purchase a copy of Windows for each machine you will be using it on.

BIG C – YOU are incorrect. Unless the version of Windows that asker has it a FULL RETAIL version, then it is not transferable. OEM copies of Windows are bound to the computer they were originally installed on.
I am a Microsoft OEM provider going on 8 years now and well versed in Windows licensing. This is why system builders are REQUIRED to put the Windows license sticker on the side of the case itself. The sticker cannot be removed. You cannot transfer a Windows license from one computer to another.

You are wrong
The licence key you have is for the XP version you have ONLY
Trying to download a different copy from whatever source can very easly damage your computer by microsoft de-activating the software.
You see this is the reason for the key. Each key is for each software you can not mix and match.
