3 weeks ago we put a truck on hold for the 24th of may. On the 23rd they called to confirm. They rented this truck right out from under us. This is for mom, elderly and in poor health. The home is sold we have to be out by the 28th. Holiday weekend to boot. We got put back on the list to wait. We had 5 people being paid 10.00 to help load the truck. Their reaction is Oh Well to Bad. Other rental trucks are booked. 1 company even said ” Well you should have pre-booked. ”
Spending the rest of the day on the phone or waiting for calls to be returned. How do we make a companies like this to take accountability? This could happen to anyone of you some day.

I had that happen. Got on the phone to their customer service management and chewed them a new one. They located me a truck about 8 hours late, ended up pretty much eating the entire cost of the truck as well as rooms for people to stay overnight in to help with the move because of the delay.

Get a manager and bang on him hard. This is their bad; they need to do the responsible thing and fix it.

I am NOT shocked at all. Same thing happened to a girlfriend. I witnessed it. They could give a rats’ a**!
Just this last year we rented one, stupid us, from Uhaul again.
While I waited in line for over an hour, I witnessed your exact scenario happen to at least six other people. Every single customer during that hour was getting ripped off in some way. The stories just got more and more sad!!! One guy had reserved it so he could hitch a trailer to it for a group of boy scouts going canoeing. He did not get the size truck he reserved, and no trucks left had a hitch…but!!!!! “He could buy one.”
My friend had requested an automatic. We get there and they say they don’t have automatics in the size she requested.
Let’s just thank God I can drive a stick.
They never compensated any of the countless frustrated people I saw that day!! It was one big “Too bad, so sad.”
I would bug their manager till he is blue. Call their corporate offices tomorrow and tell them what happened and what your losses were and will be if this is not corrected -YOU NEED A TRUCK THIS WEEKEND!! Period! Threaten to go to the Better business, and anyone else you can think of. Let them “bump” someone else, just like they did you, you don’t care. But you will expect a truck there on such & such date.
I so wish you the best. For now the best we can do is to warn other consumers. NO UHAUL!!!
OH, I almost forgot this tip…the people at the desk are trained to ask if you need all kinds of extra stuff. Double check to see what the truck comes with. Example…they asked if we needed any blankets. We said yes, since we were moving a lot of her antiques. We of course were charged for them, we expected that. But there are several that come with the truck rental. We were not told. Same goes for a dollie, and a couple other things I can’t remember.
Cute huh? AND..if you need a lock (parking the thing full somewhere?) bring your OWN lock!!
    OK NOW, I think I am done. : )
go get ‘em- I hate moving,so I hope the remainder of your ordeal is over and goes smooth!
