Alias asked:

I was pre-approved for an AMEX card. Called to apply and they put my application in pending status b/c they want me to provide proof of my employment by sending them a recent pay stub along with a letter from my employer corroborating my emolument.

It is only discrimination if they dont’ require everyone to have a job.

Trust me, we all have to show we have the ability to pay.

Most places ask for your employers name, address and phone number and verify employment themselves. After all you could send them false documents. I would tell them your employer would prefer it if they contacted them.

Legal and a smart business practice .
You want their $$$$ , they have every right to determine if you qualify .
If you do not want to provide proof of employment ,
Do Not apply for an account where you will be borrowing Their $$$$$ .
